What is fertigation method in agriculture.
Fertigation derived from two words combined together - Fertilizers and Irrigation. Briefly; fertigation means using or applying fertilizers and other water soluble product through an irrigation system. The use of fertigation method is a modern way of planting plants which has been proven to be more succesful than the conventional method of planting plants directly onto the soil.
The advantages of fertigation are many. These include:
1. Low operational cost.
2. Reduce the problems brought about by sub-surface activities by organisms/animals.
3. Superior product
4. Method is much cleaner and environmentally friendly.
5. Reduce the possibilities of plants diseases.
6. Controlled use of fertilizers, water etc and save them from wastage.
7. Reduce weed problem hence reducing the cost of pesticides and herbicides.
8. Optimize productivity as crops/plants grow more healthier.
9. Controlled feeding of nutrient through different stages of plant growth ensuring that plant stay healthy.
Plants which are suitable for fertigation includes:
1. Chili
2. Water melon / rock melon
3. Tomatoes
4. Cucumber
5. Strawberry
6. Grape.
